Our 'Presentation Station' by Daniel and Connor

For our SAL presentation, we would like to do the setting of an American senator's desk during the war, displaying things on his desk such as a:

  - Suitcase (open)

  - 'Top Secret' Files (displayed inside or next to the suitcase)

  - Awards and Medals for military service

  - Very large American flag in the background (wall behind the desk)

  - Name of position

  - Writing utensils and multiple pages

  - Photos of family (Son in military uniform)

  - Cup of coffee "World's Best Dad"

  - a hand-gun on the desk

  - Newspapers

  - Reading light 

  - A coat or jackets hung over the chair

  - Diary

These items will be used to decorate and represent the "life" and patriotism of the character and his story. We also thought this could be a fun, interesting and informative way to communicate our character's perspective on the Vietnam War and what his role and personal emotions were. 

A story will be written to illustrate our character's personal conflicts and progression. This will include information like: his name, family connections, dreams, ideas, fears, etc. The diary will help to bring across his story. We may include videos of reenactments of events which will be starring: Daniel Remondos-Green! 

Information we have put together about American politicians during the Vietnam war, looking at their goals, and their reasons for involvement in the war, as well as their views on the situation and certain events.

American Politicians during the Vietnam War 1955-1973

Reasons for the war:

-Wanting to stop the spread of Communism throughout Asia and surrounds.

-America regarded Communism as being “life in which the will of a few is forcibly inflicted upon the majority” and a government that “relies upon terror and oppression, a controlled press and radio, fixed elections, and the suppression of personal freedom.”

-When Ho Chi Minh liberated Vietnam from French Colonialism, America suspected a Communist influence taking part in the event, labelling Vietnam as a “communist threat”.

-In 1946 France tried to take control of Vietnam by launching an attack on the Vietnamese Harbour of Haiphong, killing 6000 people. France then gained a weak foothold in the control of Vietnam, and appointed Bao Dai as the Vietnamese leader, who was not recognised by Russia and Eastern Europe as the true Vietnamese leader, as they still rooted for Ho Chi Minh.

-America helped France hugely, but despite this they couldn't control of contend Vietnamese Viet Minh guerrilla tactics.

After we have gathered enough information about the Vietnamese war, we will create a fake character, a very patriotic American politician (senator) whose son has gone off to fight in Vietnam war. We will create a 'setting' or stand that displays an American senator's desk in the middle of the war, with items on the desk such as 'Top Secret' files and other paraphernalia that sets the scene.
